What do you like about a book? The cover, name of author and title is what we see first. But is that the best bit or is it the feel of crisp new pages, or the smell of new ink. The excitement and joy of a new and intriguing story?
I like nothing better than looking round old book shops and charity shops for old classic stories. It’s the smell and the dog eared pages, even the writing of who it once belonged to. I would make up stories about the owner and wonder why they gave it away. The pages were so much thinner but rarely do you find them damaged.
Even now I find it incredibly hard to give away my books, I know I will never have time to read them again as there is always something new to read and finding time is hard. But your never know when you might need to refer to it or look up something.
Do you think books will survive this electronic gadget age? We are now buying eBooks, which are cheaper or even free to read. You don’t even have to have a kindle as iPhones, iPads and many other things allow you to read a book on them. Will people miss turning the pages and holding a book and even keeping it and lending it to friends.
Things change and improve so quickly I sometimes thing we don’t even have time to acknowledge that it’s all different. Personally I like to go and look for a book as picking it is as much fun as reading it. Will there always be library’s as even old books are being transferred to electronic reading. Lets hope that for every eBook you buy you also buy a book!
Had to write about this as 1. It’s funny and 2. I think I need to raise awareness to this problem.
Had a very lovely evening at my daughters, lots of food, wine and extremely good company. As it was so late when it all came to a close, you never want the evening to end, especially after a few too many delicious wines do you? I decided….er…..My daughter, decided that I was going to stay the night.
Waking up to a lovely cup of tea, such a treat when you live on your own. My daughter informed me that I could have a shower and use what ever I needed to. Such a welcome idea as must admit I wasn’t feeling the best.
As I step under the water I begin to feel human again and decide to take advantage of her hospitality and wash my hair, I pick the shampoo up and get a nice big blob on my hand and rub tenderly into my hair. Mmmmm no lathering up, what’s going on, try to read bottle but print so small and no glasses in bathroom. Think I can make out a C oh! It’s conditioner, try another bottle. Big dollop on hand and repeat process, head very delicate so could do without this. No lather! Look at second bottle, no, that does not say conditioner surely? Yes.
I am struggling now and to be honest I just want to get out, I look along all the bottles on shelf, I admit to myself I can’t really see what any of them say. What to do? Relief spreads slowly through me, I see a bottle of baby shampoo, you cannot get that bottle wrong as it is very distinctive. Happily I squeeze some out and quickly wash my hair, feels so much better. Now time to condition it….well you have to after you’ve washed your hair!
The day of love is almost over, are you pleased with your cards and presents, little tokens of love. Does it actually mean anything being told those three little words today? Do you actually mean it when you say them today or are you just being led by the day?
If the person your with says it every day in text, email and on the phone, does it mean more saying it today or are you so used to it that it does not mean anything?
Maybe the person that says I love you very occasionally with tenderness and feeling has got it right? How do you feel if they never say it and just tell you “you know I do”?
Then some people just never believe it no matter how they are told, once your heart has been broken the sticky tape is there!
Sometimes I’m glad I am single…..hope you all had a good day, however it was said x
I have always thought my cat was very clever and special as she comes in to me every morning and taps me to wake me up, very good if I have forgotten to set alarm.
But no, I find out today on Facebook it’s nothing special a lot of cats do it 😔
She does however play fetch the ball with me! Honest, I will do a video. She will be special!
At least it only happens once a year, only trouble is once we have eaten them we then have to diet for three days. I have solved the problem this year, they say fruit is good for you and healthy so I had strawberry’s with the pancakes…..ok, yes I did have a bit of clotted cream. No excuses I’m weak I admit it. I will do an hour on the exercise bike for the next three days, honest I will!
See what I mean, you couldn’t say no to that could you? Well that’s it over for another year, only trouble is we are now fat and got to paint the kitchen ceiling because our tossing of the pancakes was not up to scratch.
Happy Pancake Day x
