First thoughts are blossom covered dreams of cute little babies that drink their milk and sleep, looking so angelic and gorgeous.

We get no manuals or self help books as every single one of them is different, friends give advice but that’s their thoughts and what they did for their own babies.  We all stumble through and do the best we can, mistakes are made but we learn from them and we get to know our children through the thick and thin of everyday life.  This goes on forever.

Not everyone struggles, some just seem to float through the experience and we think how do they do that, why does it not work for me?   Teething, why do some babies have so much trouble that teething jel is just laughed at, no sleep for days does not produce a good look and you dread anyone knocking on the door as then you will have to look in the mirror and see that disheveled, old, tired face, why did I put that mirror by the door?

The toddler stage is either floated through or a nightmare from start to finish in fact it just carries on from the teething and then you get both happening at the same time, then its time to give yourself the paracetamol, you need it more than the child.

Starting school, you should be happy as you have some time for yourself but you end up crying at the gate, mascara running down your face, always use waterproof mascara after you have a child as you never know when the tears will pop out and you have no control over them.  This also goes on for ever too.

Every year of primary school you will have moments of extreme sadness and happiness but you get used to it and it does ease, that is until they leave primary school with their written on t shirt, certificates, name on cup for best student, that’s when you cry a river.

Teenagers – You thought you had been through the worse and it was all plain sailing now, how wrong you were this phase feels like it goes on forever and some it does as they are still acting like a teenager at 23!  I would not wish this period on anyone it really does turn you grey, turn you against your partner, if you still have one, your friends and most want to run away but your trapped as you are the taxi driver, cook, cleaner, washer, agony aunt, shopper, friend, homework helper, the worse mum in the world!  At some point you see a light at the end of the tunnel but by then you are a mess, a portion of your former self, you will never be the same person again as a child changes you, some for the good and occasionally some for the worse.

You never stop though as it goes on and on, they keep coming back constantly for the rest of your life their problems are your problems, you are supposed to be this super woman with all the answers to everything and one click of your fingers and all their problems will be sorted.  You cannot solve everything though, some of it they have to learn for themselves and hopefully that will equip them to be a super Mum!

If not there’s always wine!
