The group is going so well, in fact much better than I could ever have hoped, we have new people coming all the time and we are constantly evolving and creating new things so we can appeal to a larger audience.
Above are our dates for the next few months, I am now getting guests together for the remaining months of this year. If there is an author that you would like to meet then please let me know and I will see what I can do.
Our next guest will be Sheena Dempsey on the 28th February so get that date in your diaries please. I love some of her drawings and how wonderful that she was picked to do Fearne Cotton’s, wonder if she would like to come and be our guest one month?
I would like to say again that we do not charge for any of our meetings or events, Bella Vita do not charge us for using their location and all we would ask is that you buy a drink while there. Bella Vita is down the bottom of The Old High Street in Folkestone on the left. There is car parking at the end of the road opposite, also bus stops on both sides of the road, there is also a taxi rank a couple of minutes walk up Tontine Street.
All of our meetings start at 6.30 and finish anytime between about 9 and 10 depending how long the guest talks for and answers then signs books and at our group meetings how many members read their work for feedback. But I must say that you can obviously leave whenever is convenient for you especially if you are getting a bus. Some of us stay for a drink after and carry on chatting and networking.
I am going to start a book swap table so if you would like to swap your latest read then bring it along.
We have also thought about reading a book a month for the members that would like to and then having a bit of a discussion about it, maybe even our guest speakers latest book.
I appreciate that not all these parts will be what everyone wants but I am sure we can have a bit of discussion on some tables while others do something else. As I said at the beginning this is your group so we will hopefully please all of you.
We were very lucky this month as our guest speaker Charlie Gallagher gave us five of his latest signed books to sell, which we did for £5 each and we raised £25 for the charity MIND, which is our local charity for this year. We will pick a local one each year.
We are having some new leaflets made as well as the posters we put out each month so please share everything, even to other groups that you think might have people interested in our group.
See you on the 21st February at 6.30
